Storage Insurance Tips
|
We understand the importance of protecting your items against loss. After all, you wouldn’t be storing your items if you didn’t want them back in the same condition you packed them! Even though we have been open since 1998 and have never had a single occurrence of fire, water, or other natural disaster damage, having insurance to cover the contents of your storage unit or units is always a good idea. Here are some great Insurance Tips to get you started. |
Photograph Your Belongings |
In the unlikely event that you would have an insurance claim on items in your self storage unit, there are some things that will greatly aid your claim. The first thing you should do it take a photograph of every item you store for proof that you indeed own items claimed and you can prove the condition that your items were in. Be sure to talk to your insurance company to see if your insurance covers your items at actual cost or replacement value. |
Call Your Insurance Company |
Secondly, call your insurance company. If you have homeowners or renters insurance, most of the larger insurance companies will cover off-site storage at no additional cost! Free! If not, ask if there is a small premium you can pay in order to cover the off-site
storage. This is clearly your best option. |
Storage Insurance |
However, if you do not currently have homeowners or renters insurance or if you just want additional insurance, we do offer insurance through Bob Bader Insurance since self storage facilities do not insure the contents of their tenants units. This insurance is an inexpensive, short-term solution to protect your items. For as little as $8.00 per month, you can insure up to $2,000.00 worth of goods! We have several different levels of coverage, so if Bob Bader Insurance is right for you, please talk to our storage staff to be sure that we fit you with the right policy. The insurance that we offer is typically very competitive with rates that you would be able to find yourself. |
Review and Update |
One thing you will certainly want to remember is that your insurance needs will change as you put items in and take items out of your self storage unit, so be sure to talk to your insurance agent to make sure that you can change your insurance to fit your needs.
