Climate Controlled Storage
|
There is a big difference between climate controlled and non-climate controlled units. Could you imagine storing a mattress wrapped in a mattress bag, wooden antiques, or oil paintings in your garage? Absolutely not. Mold would grow in the mattress from the moisture, the wooden antiques would warp, and the expensive oil painting would be destroyed! These items require climate control. Climate controlled units offer a stable, healthy environment for your belongings in the extreme Florida temperature and humidity. Climate controlled units are frequently recommended when storing furniture, clothing, linens, wooden items, antiques, paintings, pictures, etc. You can rest easy knowing that your personal effects are safely stored in a climate controlled unit. The temperature and humidity are set for the optimum protection of your belongings all day and all night long. |
Humidity Control |
Humidity is more important than temperature in controlling mold and mildew. The EPA recommends keeping the humidity below 60%. Florida Power and Light suggests keeping the humidity below 58%, allowing for the temperature to go as high as 88 degrees. Bonita Storage Inn uses an electronic humidity meter to regularly check the humidity levels of all our buildings. Our climate control systems keep the humidity level well below the mold and mildew level. |
Non-Climate Controlled Storage |
Now, it is also true that not all items require the use of climate controlled storage. For example, tools, bicycles, assorted athletic gear, etc. all benefit from climate control, however, it is not necessary. A good rule of thumb when deciding whether or not to use climate controlled storage is to consider whether or not you would store the items you wish to store with us in a garage for an extended period of time. Typically, climate controlled units are your best bet for the finest preservation of your items. If you are unsure, please feel free to call and ask one of our storage experts. We will be happy to assist you in your decision. |
